I don’t think anything you ever write gives you a proper perspective on the worth of it, because everything is so hard, the creative process is so hard and so humbling in the writing that you can’t think of yourself as a success. Writing itself, creating itself, is a very, very humiliating process, so you can’t feel strong enough and big enough to say, well, this is going to be a hit. You never know, but you have a gut feeling.
